A simple and fragrant way to spice up plain rice.  Jeera is the indian word for cumin, so simply put this is cumin flavoured rice.

Cook Time 15 minutes

Ingredients
  

  • 2 tsp Cumin Seeds
  • 260 g Basmati Rice

Instructions
 

  • Heat a pot with a large knob of butter and a drizzle of vegetable oil over a medium heat.  Once melted add the cimin seeds and cook for 1 minute or until starting to sizzle.  Once sizzling add the basmati rice, stirring to coat the grains in the butter and oil.
  • Once the grains are coated,a dd 600ml cold water to the pot and bring to the boil over a high heat.  Once boiling reduce the ehat to very low and cook, covered for 10-12 minutes or until the water has been absorbed and the rice is cooked.  Once cooked, remove from the heat and keep covreed until serving

Notes

You can adjust the quantity of cumin seeds according to your preference for a stronger or milder jeera flavor. Additionally, feel free to add a pinch of turmeric powder to the rice for a vibrant yellow color and subtle flavor.
